Week Two - Friday
Prayer Before Communion
Ora / Pray
Be pleased, O Lord, with our humble prayers and offerings,
and since we have no merits to plead our cause,
come, we pray, to our rescue
with the protection of your mercy.
Through Christ our Lord.
Labora / Work
No matter how good we think our marriage and family life is, there is always room for improvement. The Catechism of the Catholic Church 1601 and Code of Canon Law 1055 both define the two purposes of marriage as “the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of children.” What is the greatest good you could want for your spouse? I hope you would say HEAVEN! And it follows that the greatest education we can give our children is the law and love of the Lord. We must remember, however, that no matter how hard we try in these endeavors, we can’t do it on our own. So at the end of the day we can only ask the Lord to be pleased “with our humble prayers and offerings.” So today, do your best as a spouse and a parent to lead those in your family to Heaven, reminding them what Advent and the upcoming Christmas season is truly about, and then at the end of the day, fall on your knees and beseech the Lord to be pleased with what you have done and to rescue you with His mercy in the areas you have failed. We don’t have to do this alone. Our Lord and Our Lady are there to help!
